Eluned Morgan Banned from Driving for six months. Morgan pleaded guilty to speeding on a 30 mph road in Wrexham. The health minister had accrued too many points on her licence. Morgan stated she had pleaded guilty and accepted the court’s decision.

 “This is not something I am proud of and I apologise unreservedly.” The Labour Senedd member for Mid and West Wales was disqualified on Wednesday at a hearing in Mold Magistrates court.

Trials are appearing across parts of Wales, introducing 20mph zones. Eluned Morgan was caught speeding 30mph in Wrexham, resulting in her conviction at Mold Magistrates Court.

It followed three other speeding offences in September 2019, June 2020 and April 2021.

Politicians on the Senedd standards committee recommended a formal reprimand after finding Ms Morgan had broken the code of conduct.

This followed an investigation by Standards Commissioner Douglas Bain who found the minister showed “a disregard for the law and a failure to take action to avoid repetition of unlawful conduct”.


The Welsh Parliament formally reprimanded Eluned Morgan as the first minister on Wednesday afternoon. In a statement in the Senedd chamber, the Labour politician expressed “sincere remorse and deep regret” for her actions. Ms Morgan received a ban from driving for six months and fined £800 in March.

Ms Morgan served as the Shadow Minister for Wales in the House of Lords, and from 2014 to 2016 she served as Shadow Minister for Foreign Affairs.
